Me, myself & anyone who chats.

A tad behind again. This seems to be a bit of a recurring theme! I’ll just pick up where I left off…

The day after Etienne left for Vancouver Island, I decided to go for a hike. I searched for ones around Vancouver, but struggled a bit given the season & the lack of car. Eventually I settled on “Lighthouse Park”. Turned out there was a group session heading there organised by the hostel I was in, I tried to sign-up but there was an error, then I was told it was full but I could probably tag along, then I got confused and thought it was cancelled. Anyway, I went by myself.

The Lighthouse.

Got the bus over there in the morning and chatted to an elderly couple from Vancouver Island for most of the journey. I was just confirming which stop I needed when I heard a “Anyone from Samesun Hostel, next stop is ours!”. Soooo after some awkward explaining as to why I wasn’t at the hostel but had suddenly appeared, I joined the group for the hike after all.

The hike was pleasant enough… more of a walk really & catered to all abilities to we didn’t go as fast as I’d have done by myself. Not sure we did the full loop in the end, but the weather was lovely & the view was nice.

I had a nice convo with an Aussie guy (didn’t catch his name), who’s given me a list of places to see when we’re in Melbourne. Then had a loooong chat with a man called Jasper, til I lost him in the group. Then nattered away with the activity guide (Donny) til the end of the walk. Was nice to chat to peeps, but I was pretty exhausted by the end & happy to get back to my own company!!!

Wine with a view.

To finish the day I decided to head to the Vancouver Lookout Tower – Donny had advised that it’s cheaper to go to the revolving restaurant & grab a wine than to go to the actual ‘lookout’ level, so this was my plan. A few sips into my wine, I hear a french accent* on the table next to me & my ears perked up. The table noticed me eavesdropping & next thing I know I’m joining them on their table, chatting a bit in French (but mostly in English) and sharing some more wine! So much for enjoying my own company!!!😅

After a couple of revolutions, swapping stories & lots of laughing; we headed off & parted ways. I didn’t grab their deets or anything & don’t even know if we swapped names… but it was a lovely evening & I’m glad to have met them. Then headed back to bed, ready for a work trip to Whistler the next day!!!

*The “French” accent, was in fact Belgian & her partner was Spanish-Quebecois. Definitely easier to understand than the standard Quebec in both cases though.
