The next few days were spent in Whitehorse. We’d found a phone number for a BnB in the Yukon magazine that we read on the train to Vancouver. (I did mention the mag here, so you should know about it already. 😉 ) It was for A Scandia House, we were a tiiiiny bit nervous as we’d just sort of blindly trusted the magazine & then provided our bank details to a stranger over the phone… but it worked out just fine!
There was a bit of faff with the check-in as we agreed a time, then ran super late and JUST missed the owner, as she headed out for a bridge tournament. We didn’t know this until after we tried to turn up though & only found out when we sponged some Wifi at the tourist information centre. We then emailed back & agreed a later time that evening (which we also missed, but this time she left a key out for us, thank god)!
We were pretty tired from our late night the day before, so asked the info for a short & relatively easy trail. The woman was lovely, but didn’t really seem to know which trails would be maintained or have any immediate recommendations. We’d read about ‘Miles Canyon’ in lots of the brochures, so changed tact & asked specifically about that one. She gave us a little bit of paper with directions on & off we went. Luckily, it was easy enough to find & a well packed trail. (No wading through thick snow.) 👌
The hike was LOVELY. There was a cute suspension bridge and some really cool features in the river where the ice was starting to melt, but hadn’t fully yet. We also managed to clamber to a little island type thing which had a gorgeous view down the canyon. We didn’t record our activity, but I’ve tried to add it manually to AllTrails (link at the bottom)…. my first AllTrails addition! 😁
To end the day, we finally got into our AirBnb. It was super cozy & no-one else was staying so we had the ‘shared’ spaces all to ourselves, which we were very happy with. We had our dinner, finishing with some home-made banana muffins provided by our host, Lene & settled in for the night. Another day well spent.
