Kathleen Lake.

Our final day in Kluane, we headed to Kathleen Lake. We were pretty tired (despite the super comfy cabin bed & an extra long lie-in), so intended to do a small walk, maybe like 3km or so.

Tracks: Us & the snowmobiles.

We set out onto the lake. A little way into our walk, we decided that we would go all the way to the other side as it really didn’t look that far. A few hours & definitely more than 3km later we still hadn’t made it. We changed our plan and decided we’d go to “see what’s behind that mountain” (ref. a mountain seemingly quite close to us)… well, the mountain was bigger than it looked too. We made it kinda halfway-ish then decided there probably wouldn’t be anything behind it anyway, so headed on back. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Coyote, spotted on our drive.

It was good fun & a slightly surreal experience. There were no other footprints on the lake, just some snowmobile trails, so cool to be the first people treading in that snow. Can definitely see how people go crazy in the desert though; we lost all sense of time & space somewhere in the middle & we even saw a mirage where the sun met the edge of the lake!!!

When we were back at the car we stopped for lunch in a little shelter next to the lake. I’d made some home-made soup from leftovers a day or so before; nice & warming which was needed as there was a fair bit of wind out on the lake! Definitely something we’ll be doing again.

Then we were back to Whitehorse, for our last few nights before leaving the Yukon (& Canada)!!! ๐Ÿ’”
