On a time limit today as Etienne is cooking. We’re having pasta so don’t think I have long!
We had another lovely day today, with a hike in Lake Louise. We took our crampons/spikes, still not sure what they’re actually called? And went up, up, up towards the “Big Beehive”. We didn’t actually know what this was, so were merrily walking along and then mentioned to some walkers we passed mid-hike that we were heading there & they explained we must have passed it already. Turns out it’s just a big bumpy rock/mountain. (We took a quick snap on the way back down)
We then walked up to the Tea Room which was supposed to be a relatively easy walk, but we took a wrong turn so waded our way through knee-deep snow. I was convinced we were in avalanche territory at one point, but Etienne pointed out there were still signs & footprints, so we were still on the path. For the purposes of this blog, let’s say it was super dangerous off-trail exploring though… 😉
After the hike we went to have a coffee in the Fairmount Hotel which has lovely view of the lake & mountains. We were asked if we were having “Drink Drinks” & told we weren’t allowed in the lounge when we said coffee. So instead, we went to the Ice Bar outside… I just got a hot cider (non-alcoholic) but Etienne got some “Maple Rye” drink. I tried a bit and it was honestly the worst drink I’ve ever tried. Etienne liked it though.
To finish the day we went up a tiny little walk to a the “Fairmount Viewpoint” it was short but suuuuuper steep. The view was spectacular though, so definitely worth the climb. When we came down we slid on our bums & feet where we could, obviously!
We then headed back here, grabbed a drink in the restaurant, planned our route for tomorrow (we’re heading to Kicking Horse) and now Etienne is almost done with the pasta… the pasta has been bubbling a while & the cheese is now grated!
