We left Lake Louise around 11am this morning to head to Golden/Kicking Horse. (Did I ever mention where we stayed? This place, it was lovely.) We met a really nice family from Montreal while staying there & when we left the dad was waiting for the shuttle to the ski resort. We didn’t really have room in our car, but we shoved things around and gave him a lift. Good deed, done! ✔️
We then headed to the lake itself as we’d not skated it yet. I continued my mission of trying to skate backwards & to look ‘more relaxed’. Etienne was zooming round, crossing his feet, going backwards… all sorts. We both loved it.
Next up, a quick stop in Canmore to collect our skis/snowboard. It was in totally the wrong direction, but I’d managed to find a super cheap rental place. (If we’d rented direct from the ski stations it would’ve been double the price, thankyou Canmore Ski Rentals!) We also did a big shop in the hope that that was cheaper too – not convinced it was though!
The scenery on the drive was incredible (again). We stopped to eat our packed lunch in a lay-by, which would normally be rubbish, but we had a stunning mountain view & plenty of food, so it was perfect. 👌
A few hours later & we’ve arrived. We’re staying in the Dreamcatcher Hostel. It’s got a nice vibe, a huge chill-out area and the soap is the same type my mum used to buy (the one with the fish on the bottle), so it feels instantly homely. LOADS of Brits here too. One was spouting off about the Bible & how we find salvation – luckily we were eating on our own separate table so we didn’t have to be a part of that convo.
The town we’re in is called Golden & is in British Columbia. We didn’t actually realise we were leaving Alberta til we passed the sign: “Welcome to British Columbia, the greatest place on Earth.” (How modest… )
And that’s it for today! My plan was to upload the pics before hitting the hay, but the pics aren’t working as the Wi-Fi is totally naff. You’ll just have to imagine it all for now… go wild! They’re working now – enjoy!
