We arrived in Canmore yesterday. Our hostel here is super cozy with a real alpine/outdoorsy feel. Wood everywhere & I’m currently sat in front of big windows. I think there will be a really nice view when the sun comes out, but at the moment it’s just black outside. I’ll add one when my shift finishes if it’s worth it.**
Yesterday morning was spent on the slopes at Kicking Horse again. It was sunny when we left, but cloudy the minute we got to the top so we couldn’t see much (again). We’ve had a lot of clouds in The Rockies… think my pics to date may be slightly misleading!
We’d met a nice couple in our hostel that morning, so Etienne did a Double-Black with them. I did one run (Blue/Green) then was a bit bored. (Such a first world problem – being bored at a Ski resort!) I stopped after the one & found some WiFi to call my mum for a quick chat. Not long after, the girl from the couple (Victoria) joined me, after finishing the first run. The boys went up & did one more, then we all grabbed a drink together before leaving. A nice start to the day!
The afternoon was spent driving over here. It would have taken two hours if we went the short way, but we went the scenic route & it’s us…. so it took us about 5! The views were stunning, as per all our other mountain drives. We listened to French music trying to sing-along, discussed The Rockies vs the Alps* & ate sweets. At one point we almost escaped the clouds to the blue sky in front of us, but by the time we got there the cloud had come with us. Overall, a good 5 hours well spent.
When we arrived we were insanely tired, so we just threw together a quick pasta dinner and went straight to bed stumbled into a games room on our way to bed, so had a couple games of Nine-ball before calling it a night. 🎱
*Verdict on Rockies vs Alps: The (Canadian) Rockies have nicer views in the valleys. The Alps have nicer views from the top. The ski resorts are bigger/wider in the Alps, but we’ve not been to loads here, so this may be a rushed conclusion. The Rockies are different colours & the trees go higher. Ultimate decision was that, really, they’re not comparable and two totally different things, despite both being mountain ranges.
**Update on the view: Looks to be quite cloudy. I’ll try take one if/when the sun comes back.
