Writing this in the middle of the day – the morning has been interesting. We headed over to Kicking Horse & took the gondola right to the top. I faffed a lot with my Goggles, boots, skis… etc. Eventually I was sorted and off we went. It’s super cloudy today and the piste was pretty narrow with a big drop off the edge, so I skied like a snail. 🐌
For context – Etienne is a very good skiier & snowboarder with all the style (I’ll try grab a video to upload at some point), I’m just one of those people that muddles my way down the mountain somehow. We’d been told Kicking Horse was more of an ‘expert level’ resort so I was pretty nervous. I think it’s probably fair to say it is – there’s not many easier runs at the top & there’s a load of ungroomed, double-black diamonds. (If you’re not familiar with the US ski rating system – here ya go: What do the symbols on ski trail signs mean?)
Anyway, made it to the bottom with no drama. Woohoo! Then I noticed the price of the passes at this resort… We’d pre-purchased our passes back in Stoneham where we had a season pass for night skiing. We paid C$229 to add 3x days of skiing in each of the group’s resorts in the Rockies. (So $229 for 12 days of skiing, if we go to all 4 resorts.) The price for ONE day at Kicking Horse was $140… I felt something was wrong.
I asked the lady and she said we only got 3 days in TOTAL for our price, not 3 at each. I was a bit gutted as this was not the resort for me given my level, so felt I’d wasted my day. But they very kindly re-instated my pass for me to get my day back, given I’d only done one run. So, that’s why I’m here & not on the slopes anymore! 💖
BUT…… (U-Turn!) I decided to just double check what we’d purchased & found this. Quite clearly stating $229 for 3 days at EACH resort. Yayyyy! Gonna head back now & show them this, maybe give another slope ago given it’s already paid. Absolutely insane deal! 🤑
